Biographical Sketch:
A prolific and highly acclaimed playwright and known as the Father of Comedy, eleven of his forty plays survive virtually complete. Aristophanes has been said to recreate the life of ancient Athens more convincingly than any other author, and according to Plato, his play The Clouds contributed to the trial and execution of Socrates.
