484-425 BC
Biographical Sketch:

Herodotus, the oldest Greek historian, and for this reason usually styled the "Father of History," was born in Halicarnassus, in Caria, 484 B.C. In his time, writing was mainly that of the myths (although there were a few prose writers) but Herodotus broke that tradition, by traveling the known world and writing what he saw or heard from various sources.
